As the end of the school semester approaches, the amount of homework assignments and exams to prepare for seems to quadruple. This is the time of the year that I become extremely unorganized. This happens every semester, especially during finals week. It's hard for me to prepare for exams and submit assignments all during the same week. Theres been many times where I have to sacrifice a grade in one class in order to focus on another. This is most likely due to the fact that I procrastinate because I always assume that I have more time to study and complete assignments than I actually do. This leaves me scrambling trying to get everything done, which most likely impacts my performance. To avoid this from happening again, I decided to brainstorm ways to help me stay on track.
The most obvious way to stay organized is to use the academic planner that was given to me by my school. I always make use of the planners for the first couple months of the semester. After that, it is forgotten about and left in my room for the remaining school year. The school planner is kind of boring, with not that much room to fit everything that I want write. I wanted a planner where I can write down my goals for the day so I know what I'm supposed to be doing. With so many assignments and tests to study for, making sure that I'm productive everyday is important. Having a set plan on what I need to work on each day will significantly help me prepare for finals. The planner that I was looking for would need a calendar so I could visually see the due dates that are coming up. Having it all laid out in front of me would help me prioritize my time better. Theres been many times where I don't realize how close an assignments due date is until it's almost too late.
With this in mind I went to my local Target and purchased a new planner. Not only is it the cutest planner I've ever seen, it has everything I need such as a section for daily goals. It even has a calendar section that is big enough to write inside. Everyday since I bought this planner, I've been writing goals for each day. Although I bought this planner for school, I could see it helping me organize my life as well. I write down three academic goals for each day and an additional three goals that pertain to improving my life. My academic goals for today were to study for at least 2 hours before my Geography exam, complete an online exam for my Biology class, and to write some blog posts for my communications class. My other goals for today was to go to the gym, deposit money in the bank and see a friend.
The goals that I make for myself differ depending on how I'm feeling that day. If I'm not feeling okay, I don't force myself to complete them. However, having goals to work towards each day and completing them is a relieving feeling. I don't feel so overwhelmed and I'm so much more organized than I was before. Now I can get things done and know that I'm being productive as long as I stick to my goals and keep track of my responsibilities.
