The Wellness Wheel

The other day, I stumbled across a blog called How To Hit The Recent Button On Your Life written by Catherine Beard. This article peaked my interest because there's obviously no reset button on life, so I wondered what the article was really about. The author confirms that there isn't really a reset button, but she offers great advice about what we can do instead. Feeling unmotivated or unexcited about life means that you're due for a change. Catherine says when we're feeling bored with our lives, we only need to make small tweaks instead of making a drastic change. I realized that I was due for a change because lately I've been extremely unmotivated with my current situation. I feel like I'm constantly busy between work and school, however, during my down time I can be found scrolling through social media for hours instead of doing something productive. Being unmotivated, along with self doubting thoughts, has been hindering my ability to perform to the best of my abilities. After I read the article, I realized that my lack of motivation was the result of feeling restless about life. I realized that I needed to make tweaks to my life in order to stay productive.

There are small, simple ways to get unstuck and feel refreshed about life. Some things such as going to bed earlier, having a morning routine, exercising and journaling are great ways to stay motivated. Exercising and journalling have significantly helped me, I make sure to do one or the other each day. Although it is helpful, I still get extremely unmotivated. Catherine says that in order to hit the reset button, you have to figure out where you are right now and what you want to change. She recommended using a Wellness Wheel to evaluate what changes to make.

The Wellness Wheel evaluates the most important aspects of your life such as your physical health, mental health, financial status, social life, occupation, environment / home, recreation and personal growth. She instructs us to color in the sections, rating each aspect from 1-10. Once you're done, you are able to see the areas of your life that needs the most attention. For my Wellness Wheel, I realized that aspects such as recreation, social and mental health were lacking. This Wellness Wheel is extremely beneficial for creating awareness towards what you really need. I highly recommend completing this Wellness Wheel as it is a great exercise to become aware of what areas of your life needs to be improvement.
